Mike D has been making his comeback since May with two singles, scattered live dates and other auspicious moves, and he culminated that campaign today by announcing Thank You, his debut album. Arriving on Aug. 28 via Fontana, The Beastie Boy’s solo record is the first release from any member of the legendary trio since 2011’s Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. Alongside the full tracklist and some background on the origins of his long-awaited return, Diamond previewed the project with the third single, “True Colors,” a buzzy, pensive, breakbeat-powered wall of acid rock.

Thank You grew from experimentation in home-studio sit-downs between Mike D – now performing under the name Mike D 5D – and his sons, Skyler and Davis Diamond, whose band Sons Very Nice Person are credited as producers, alongside Carter Lang. Those free-associative and fun-forward sessions expanded to include a cast of collaborators like Jared Solomon, Ging, Jason Lader, Eddie Ruscha, Tyran Donaldson and more, and the exploratory, fun-forward process translated to an exhilaratingly scattershot collection of ideas bridging rock, hip-hop and electronic styles as only the Beastie Boys could, now dressed up in a new palette os cutting-edge and eclectic sounds from across the spectrum.

“It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and I have grown to really appreciate in our collaboration,” Mike D said in a release. “And I just hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious, because let’s be real, I’m releasing this music into a very strange and dark and power-fixated world that really devalues art and feelings and compassion and empathy and equality.”

Thank You is available to pre-order now. Read on for the full tracklist
